A series of studies, research and excavations have resulted in the discovery of Boudh Vihars, Stupas and other Buddhist structures in and around Sannati and this has been regarded as one of the earliest Buddhist centres in India.
Now the State has decided to preserve the historical site on the banks of river Bhima by constituting an Authority.
Till the enactment of a law providing for constitution of the authority, a committee has been formed to go about the works that have been planned.
The committee is headed by the District In-Charge Minister and comprises among others Zilla Panchayat president, revenue principal secretary, finance secretary, MD of KBJNL, UKP commissioner for rehabilitation and reconstruction, directors of State Archaecology, Tourism, Kannada and Culture and Gulbarga DC.
Buddha Dhamma Sangha working president Vittal Doddamani said the government has also sanctioned Rs 7 crore in the first phase to take up preliminary works.
The works proposed to be taken up at Sannati include acquiring 48 acres, constructing high domes to protect two stupas, museum and library, water supply, roads, electrification, guest house and yatri nivas, bus stand, restaurant, gardens and preservation of artefacts.
