Nepal Reveals 5th-Century Buddhist Stupa Restored with India's Aid

Kathmandu, Nepal -- In a testament to collaboration and cultural preservation, a 5th-century Buddhist Stupa, once ravaged by the devastating 2015 earthquake in Nepal, has been resurrected with the generous support of India.
On a bright Monday morning, Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, and Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor, Chiri Babu Maharjan, jointly inaugurated the splendid reincarnation of the Shree Napichandra Mahavihar. This impressive feat was accomplished at a cost of NPR 3.84 crore (approximately INR 2.40 crore), courtesy of the Government of India's post-earthquake reconstruction grant in Nepal's cultural heritage sector.
The resurrection of this ancient stupa was orchestrated with the invaluable technical expertise provided by the Indian National Trust for Art and Culture Heritage (INTACH). Ambassador Srivastava, in his eloquent address during the inauguration ceremony, underscored the enduring spirit of cooperation that thrives between India and Nepal across various domains.
Highlighting the cultural affinities shared by the two nations, Ambassador Srivastava emphasized the importance of preserving their historical heritage for future generations. He noted that India's continued efforts to restore cultural treasures in Nepal were not just a diplomatic gesture but a testament to the profound cultural bond that strengthens their friendly relationship.
Mayor Maharjan of Lalitpur expressed his heartfelt gratitude to India for its dedication to heritage conservation, not only in his district but throughout Nepal. In addition to the Shree Napichandra Mahavihar, India has extended its support to rehabilitate half a dozen other heritage sites in Lalitpur that bore the brunt of the 2015 earthquake.
This collaborative endeavor stands as a shining example of international cooperation and shared cultural responsibility.
