Buddha Relic tour in West Michigan

Wood TV8, Aug 5, 2006

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (USA) -- Two communities in Michigan and one in Canada will have the extraordinary opportunity to experience the Heart Shrine Relic Tour of priceless Buddhist Relics.

When the 500 foot tall bronze statue of Maitreya is completed in Kushinagar, India (projected date is 2010) these relics will be permanently installed there.  Anyone who wants to see them at that point will have to go to India to do so.  Due to demand to see the relics in other parts of the world, it is possible that the Relic Tour may never again return to Michigan before the projected 2010 deadline.

The Tour Relics of Shakyamuni Buddha (the historical Buddha) were offered by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.  Some of the other relics in the tour are from Kasyapa Buddha, Ananda, Sariputra, Maudgalyayana, Nagarjuna, Bodhisattva Chophak, Yeshi Tsogyei, Lama Atisha, Milarepa, Geshe Chekhawa, Lama Tsonghkapa, Gyalwa Ensapa, His Holiness Karmapa, Pabongka Rimpooche, Lama Thubten Yeshe, Gwang Chin Master.

Grand Rapids is the first date for the Relic Tour on August 4, 5, and 6.  Viewing hours are from Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 12-5.  At that time the relics will be at the Fountain Street Church located at 24 Fountain Street NE in downtown Grand Rapids.  It is near the corner of Fountain and Bostwick.

Detroit is the next date for the Relic Tour on August 25, 26, and 27. The opening ceremony starts at 7 PM on Friday.  Viewing hours are from Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 10-5.   At that time the relics will be at the Detroit Zen Center located at 11464 Mitchell Street, Hamtramck, MI.  It is on the corner of Mitchell Street and Casmere street.

Windsor, Ontario is the next date for the Relic Tour on September 1, 2, and 3. The opening ceremony starts at 7 PM on Friday.  Viewing hours are from Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 10-5. At that time the relics will be at the Pho Minh Temple located at 903 Parent Avenue, Windsor, Ontario.
