On the morning of July 28, 2011 a large part of Mt Uemyeon in South Korea
gave way and caused a massive landslide which have killed 59 people and
(as at press time) 14 people are still missing.
The tragedy have caused
great damage to many Buddhist temples that dot the mountain, with many cut
off from public access due to rock falls, fallen trees and washed away
bridges. Korea's only Buddhist Television Network (BTN) was also badly
affected with one of its staff member admitted to the Intensive Care Unit
(ICU).
The Jogye Buddhist order
have set up an emergency dispatch relief with more than 100 volunteers
involved. They have requested for sandbags, food, bottled water, batteries and lanterns in aid of those affected by the tragedy
We are appealing for your immediate assistance to help
our Korean Buddhist brothers and sisters in their time of need.
All contributions will be published for public scrutiny and the total amount collected shall be
presented to BTN, who will forward the aid to the temples concerned.
