Sri Lanka President’s Message for Chennai Vesak

Colombo, Sri Lanka -- “There is an important aspect to  this occasion as the Prince Siddhartha attained Buddhahood 2600 years ago on a Vesak day,” President Mahinda Rajapaksa said in his special message to the Chennai Vesak Festival.

This year’s Vesak celebration in Chennai is the eleventh successive festival conducted jointly by Sri Maha Bodhi Society and the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission Office in Chennai.

“I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the chairman of the Sri Maha Bodhi Society Ven. Baanagala Upathissa Thera and others and the members of the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission Office Chennai,” President said in his message.

“It is our noble duty to remember Anagarika Dharmapala and others who contributed to build up this great society.

“At this moment I thank the livewire of Chennai Vesak ceremony Ven. Baanagala Upathissa, the Buddhist clergy of Chennai Maha Bodhi temple and the Tamil community of Tamilnadu.

“I wish the success of this function let there be the Blessings of the Triple Gem.”
