New Buddha statue tallest in Europe

ELISTA, Russia -- A 30-foot tall statue of Buddha has been created in Russia, and the head of the factory that made it claims it's the largest in Europe.

Novosti reports the statute is made of fiberglass and cost $70,000. The statue portrays Buddha sitting on a throne.

It will be installed in a new Buddhist center in Elista, Russia, the capital of the Kalmykia republic. The majority of its population is Buddhist.

The factory will donate a 40-foot temple spire and pagoda as well.
