New Buddhist Temple in Henrietta, New York

by Evan Dawson, 13WHAM.com, Nov 29, 2005

Henrietta, NY(USA) -- When people drive by a colorful building on Martin Road in Henrietta, many think they're looking at a Japanese style home.

Buddhist Monk Seuth Kounnavont said, ?This is Laos!..not Japanese, not Thai, not Cambodian -- Laos!?

It is not a private home, it's a one-year-old Buddhist temple built like ones in the country of Laos.

Intricate stonework adorns the outside and detailed art covers the walls within.

Kounnavont lives next door to the structure with four others, including Ksounmy Nounepsay, who has waited a long time for a temple of this caliber.

The Laotian and Buddhist community has raised money to pay for the temple, and they hope to attract more worshippers.

The temple is open to the public for prayer on Sundays.
