Buddhist Monks May Withdraw Demand for Police Chief Resignation
The Korea Times, Sept 20, 2008
Seoul, South Korea -- Buddhist monks, who called for the resignation of the nation’s police chief amid the controversy of President Lee Myung-bak’s alleged tilting away from the church-sate separation principle, might drop their demand, JoongAng Ilbo reported Saturday.
The controversy involved a police search on the vehicle of the country’s highest ranking Buddhist leader, amid the government’s growing rift with one of the nation’s largest and oldest religious sects.
“We don’t necessarily hate a particulate person,” a senior monk was quoted as saying, adding he would wait for the decision of the President who had appointed him to the position.
