Court issues warrant for Buddhist nun

Seoul, South Korea -- The Ulsan District Court issued a detention warrant yesterday for the Buddhist nun, Jiyul, to ensure she attends court on charges of obstructing construction of a tunnel.

A judge said she had refused to appear. The warrant authorizes the police to detain Jiyul in the Ulsan detention center.

The nun's lawyer, Lee Dong-jun, refuted the court, saying, "The court hasn't even summoned Nun Jiyul, and that's why she never attended."

The court said if Jiyul promises to attend the trial, the warrant will be rescinded.
