Home Unused Podcast Live Webcast of the 3rd Annual Drukpa CouncilBy Tenzin Namgyel, The Buddhist Channel, Aug 23, 2011Leh, Ladakh (India) -- Devotees and pilgrims are now currently in Leh, the capital of the Indian state of Ladakh, to attend the third annual Drukpa council (ADC), that begins from August 22. The council is being presided over by His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa Rinpoche, the spiritual head of the Drukpa lineage. The week long programme will host more than 1,000 Drukpa masters and around 10,000 devotees from across the world, including several Bhutanese lams and monks. Monks of Hemis and Chemdrey monasteries in Ladakh and Druk Sangag Choeling monastery will conduct Tashi Rekong or smoke offering, Drubchen or the great accomplishment ceremony, Guru Yoga practice, Sengey Tsewa and the long life ceremony. Many Drukpa masters and trulkus will teach on taming the deluded mind, on meaningful life, the wisdom of good heart, understanding the foundations of truth, dream and reality, and also give a talk on the history of the Drukpa lineage and its propagation in Ladakh. Many sacred relics will also be displayed. According to advisor and the then council’s chairman, the 9th Khamtrul Rinpoche, Jigme Pema Nyinjadh, the programme will strengthen spiritual relations between Bhutan and Ladakh, especially when it comes to sharing knowledge on the Drukpa lineage. He said Zhabdrug has constructed eight monasteries in Ladakh and propagated Drukpa Kagyu. Many masters from Bhutan have also visited monasteries in Ladakh. Ladakh is a hidden land and has many nyes of Guru Rinpoche and other great buddhist masters. The programme will end with Moenlam or offering of one million lamps in dedication to the late King of Ladakh, and for the victims of last year’s natural disasters, as well as a grand prayer for universal peace, happiness and prosperity. The Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa's father is the Nyingmapa master Zhichen Bairo Rinpoche, the incarnation of Buddha Vairochana and thirty-sixth incarnation of the pandit Vairochana. Pandit Vairochana was an illustrious disciple of Guru Padmasambhava, and a renowned translator. Bairo Rinpoche is the former abbot of Kathok Zhichen Monastery in Kham, eastern Tibet. The Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa's mother, Mayum-la, is the daughter of a yogi, and a disciple of Dzogchen Rinpoche, His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche and many other great lamas. The Gyalwang Drukpa was born in northern India, at Lake Rewalsar or 'Tso Pema' (the 'Lotus Lake') - a place sacred to Guru Padmasambhava. The birth took place during lama dances celebrating the auspicious 10th day of the first month. This day in the Tibetan calender is sacred to Guru Padmasambhava. |
