The Executive Committee of the VBCM, the national umbrella body representing all four Tibetan Buddhist traditions in Malaysia , formally paid tribute to the young Rinpoche, whose presence in the country has been met with great joy and reverence.

A Recognised Reincarnation Returns

Ven. Tulku Tenzin Losel Rinpoche is the recognised reincarnation (Yangsi; ཡང་སྲིད་ - yang srid) of the late H.E. Kyabje Khensur Jampa Yeshe Rinpoche, the revered former Spiritual Advisor of the Sakyamuni Dharma Centre (SDC) in Malaysia.

For many Malaysian disciples who had the privilege of receiving teachings from the late Kyabje Khensur Rinpoche, meeting his recognised reincarnation was a deeply moving and meaningful experience, a long-awaited reunion across lifetimes.

Legacy of a Great Master

Kyabje Khensur Jampa Yeshe Rinpoche (1927–2011) was a towering figure in Tibetan Buddhism, a renowned scholar, a highly realised meditation master, and a former Abbot of Gaden Shartse Monastery.

Born in Kham, Tibet, he entered Gaden Shartse at 16, later fleeing to India in 1959 where he earned the prestigious Lharam Geshe degree (ལྷ་རམས་པའི་དགེ་བཤེས་, a doctorate equivalent in Buddhist philosophy) in 1971. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama appointed him Abbot of Gaden Shartse in 1984, a position he held for seven years.

The late Rinpoche was a cornerstone of the Gelug tradition, known for synthesising Sutra and Tantra teachings, instructing students on transformative Mind Training (བློ་སྦྱོང, Lojong), and maintaining strict ethical discipline. He also held firm commitments to the 13-Deity Yamantaka practice. His global outreach established Dharma centres worldwide, including the Sakyamuni Dharma Centre in Malaysia and Singapore.

Upon his passing in 2011, His Holiness the Dalai Lama composed a special prayer for his swift return, a prayer now answered in the person of Ven. Tulku Tenzin Losel Rinpoche.

Gaden Shartse: A Lineage of Resilience

The Gaden Shartse Monastery, central to Kyabje Khensur Jampa Yeshe Rinpoche's life, has a history of remarkable resilience. Founded as part of Gaden Monastery by Je Tsongkhapa in 1409, it split into the Shartse (East Peak) and Jangtse (North Peak) colleges. Following the upheavals in Tibet in 1959, a small group of monks rebuilt the monastery from scratch in Mundgod, Karnataka, India, where it now flourishes with over 1,500 monks.

Continuing the Dharma Legacy

The VBCM's tribute to Ven. Tulku Tenzin Losel Rinpoche not only honours his return but also reaffirms the enduring legacy of Kyabje Khensur Jampa Yeshe Rinpoche's teachings in Malaysia. The VBCM, representing 64 affiliated Buddhist centres, continues to uphold the unity and harmony among Vajrayana Buddhist organisations, ensuring the Dharma continues to flourish in the country.
